Contest Success for Oxted!

After a couple of years away from contests, we were glad to send a group of players down to Burgess Hill on Saturday to compete in the Scaba Solo, Quartet and Ensemble Contest 2014!

One of our members, Dave Relf, competed in both Senior Slow Melody and Senior Solo classes and came away with a very creditable 4th place in the Slow Melody section, which reflected a beautiful rendition of the operatic favourite Rusalka's Song to the Moon.

We then moved to the ensemble area where entered a group of eight players, who competed in the B section Ensemble class against some challenging competition from a selection of local bands.  We had worked hard to rehearse as best we could in the usual limited time and on the day we felt we had done our best to produce a convincing performance of our chosen piece, Sonatina.  We then nervously awaited the results, after hearing the results for 3rd (Lingfield) and 2nd (LGB) places and knowing how well those group had played, we were surprised and very happy to hear our name announced as winners of the section!

A good day for Oxted Band, and we look forward to taking part again soon!
